Our Services

KEY has always understood the value of remediating historically impacted properties for re-use. Reduction or elimination of waste issues, allows the local community to have a safer environment and hopefully a return of jobs on that site. KEY has worked with our clients and local communities to ensure that the regulatory requirements are met, permits issued, and properties restored.

Combustible Coal Residue (CCR)
Sustainable Habitat Enclosures

In addition to standard engineering solutions, KEY has developed a patent pending Sustainable Habitat Enclosure solution appropriate for the closure of Combustion Coal Residue ponds located throughout the United States. Our closure system results in significantly lower construction costs, a reduction in the volume of borrow material required, and most importantly results in the development of an ecological habitat in an area once considered a waste. This eco-friendly design has garnered the attention of the regulating agencies, environmental advocacy groups, and local communities.

The goal of almost all remedial programs is to restore the property to productive use. KEY has performed our services for many redevelopment efforts. These have included both small sites to allow a company to expand and large former industrial sites that are now magnets for warehouses, shops and homes. KEY has provided services including investigation, fate and transport assessments, engineering design, permitting, construction management, compliance, and regulatory negotiations.

Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (NAPL)

The challenge for impacted groundwater is not what’s in the water, but what the water can’t hold. NAPL impacted properties represent some of the most challenging sites to manage. KEY has acquired a reputation for managing both Light NAPL (LNAPL) and the Dense NAPL (DNAPL) found at a variety of industrial and closed properties. The KEY team recognizes the unique investigatory, modeling, and engineering design techniques required to develop a clean-up plan that not only meets site objectives, but eventually allows the property to be re-utilized.

Vapor Recovery Systems

Vapor intrusion impacts workers, visitors and residents. KEY has designed vapor recovery systems to remove the presence of vapors and to eliminate the problem. This has included installing systems in active manufacturing operations allowing the facility to remain in production, as well as,saving the clients money and time and still meeting the regulatory requirements and deadlines.

Process Engineering

KEY’s experience in process design extends from potable water projects to NAPL remediation systems. Using the latest technologies to provide ease of operation, data collection, alerts, and energy efficiency, KEY’s engineering team packages systems designed to meet the clients’ requirements. KEY excels at evaluating remedial system efficiencies, which has often resulted in lowering the long-term reserved costs for operation. And in many cases our affiliate company, FTS manages the operation, maintenance and monitoring of the systems.

Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Sites

With our coal tars and coal tar by-products experience, KEY offers unique capabilities for investigating, evaluating, and eliminating sites impacted by former Manufactured Gas Plant operations. Our projects have included removal and cleaning of gas holders, tanks, and impacted soils. KEY has also worked to create a developable property at these sites after completion of the remedial activities.
